Bill James has deep roots in Los Angeles as a fourth generation Angelino. Interested in construction and design from an early age, he pursued a parallel interest in music composition and obtained a degree in music in his 20’s from UCLA. Bill considers this one of the fundamental components of his understanding the creative process.   He never strayed far from the world of architecture or design, however,  and obtained  his Architects license in 2001, after spending a number of years working as a general contractor,  running his own design build firm, and learning most of the building trades along the way. 

Bill James and Associates is thus founded on both a keen understanding of the components and process of building construction, and of the process of creativity. Bill's team approaches each project differently, working with the client to create a unique project based on site, program and the client’s sensibilities. 

Although the firm works with many building types and styles, they have extensive experience with hillside homes and have also created unique commercial branding building designs. Commercial clients include Chrysler and Fiat Group.
